More than 2,000 people attended the Christmas tree lighting and concert at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan last night. Doctors, nurses, researchers, administrative staff, faculty, and students from the university, along with many patients and their families, gathered in the hospital’s courtyard, where a large stage was set up to host various artists, including Mara Sattei, Rovazzi, The Colors, Irama, and Achille Lauro.
The two-hour event was filled with music and joy, providing concrete support to patients spending the holidays in the hospital. It support their families, and everyone who works daily at San Raffaele, too.
As stated by the president of Ospedale San Raffaele, Paolo Rotelli,
“the hospital is often seen as a place of suffering, but it is also, and above all, a place where healing happens. We want to create significant events of humanization, to continue putting people at the center of our commitment”.
Even the most vulnerable patients could participate in the celebration from their hospital windows, making it a tradition that attracts many young people from the surrounding towns.
San Raffaele welcomes 50,000 inpatients and 1.5 million outpatient visits each year and has always combined three core areas: research, clinical practice, and university education.
