Madrid Premer Padel P1

The round of 32 of the Madrid Premier Padel P1 has been completed, with the top seeds qualifying today on the fast track in both the men’s and women’s categories. The number 1 seeds, Paula Josemaría and Ari Sánchez – who celebrated her birthday today on centre court – and the number 2 seeds, Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega, opened the day with convincing victories. The most in-form pairing in the men’s tournament, Tapia-Coello, also won convincingly, as did Chingotto-Navarro, Coki-Sanz, Ruiz-Tello and Momo-Sanyo, all of them in two sets.
Today the Madrid Arena also hosted a very special guest: Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur, finalist of Wimbledon 2023 just under a week ago. Jabeur enjoyed live the best padel in the world and greeted, among others, Juan Lebrón, Fernando Belasteguín, Ari Sánchez, Arturo Coello, Juan Tello or Araceli Martínez.
An exciting round of 16 is expected this Thursday, where the best pairings in the world will open fire at 10:00 local time to advance towards the first P1 title of the Premier Padel season.

Top seeds take the fast lane to the round of 16 at Madrid Premier Padel P1

‘Momo’ Gonzalez and ‘Sanyo’ Gutierrez had their ups and downs against Jose Luis Gonzalez and Antonio Luque in a match that told one story in the first set and other in the second. While Momo and Sanyo didn’t find resistance in the first, the second one was difficult for them. However, they were able to correct their mistakes to end with 6-1 and 7-6.

Same story the other way around would happen to Alex Ruiz and Juan Tello against Ignacio Vilariño and Salva Oria. The pair has confirmed itself as a protagonist when it comes to shaking up the first rounds of the final draws. Ruiz and Tello overcame the potential of the two Spaniards with a 7-6 and 6-2 result.

One of the most interesting matches was the one between Juanlu Esbrí and Edu Alonso against the duo formed by ‘Coki’ Nieto and Jon Sanz, who managed to win with authority thanks to a 4-6 and 2-6.

The champions and the finalists of the BNL Italy Premier Padel Major Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello and Paquito Navarro and Fede Chingotto didn’t deceive in their debut in Madrid, as they win in a big way.

To close the day, the match between José Rico and Agustín Gutiérrez against Pablo García and Álvaro Cepero went to the third set after each pair won a set. In the third set, Rico and Gutiérrez won 6-3, 3-6 and 6-3.

Carmen Goenaga and Lucia Martinez surprise in the round of 32 of the Madrid Premier Padel P1

Top seeds find success in their debut in the Madrid Premier Padel P1. The number 1s, Paula Josemaría and Ari Sánchez, took their first steps on the center court early in the morning and won against Águeda Pérez and Sara Ruiz Soto (6-2 and 6-2). The second seeds Gemma Triay and Martita Ortega were even more dominant against Lara Arruabarrena and Sara Pujals (6-2 and 6-2).

The surprise of the day came from Carmen Goenaga and Lucia Martinez, players who quietly work on all aspects of the game. They were able to become the executioners of the eighth seeds, Patty Llaguno and Carolina Orsi in a match that lasted more than two and a half hours and went through a total equality in each and every one of its parts. It could have fallen for any side until, with a burst of quality and energy, Martinez and Goenaga managed to win the match (7-5, 4-6 and 5-7).

Marta Caparrós and Léa Godallier, and Martina Fassio and Sandra Hernández offered also a hard-fought match that fell on the side of the latter after three hours of back and forth, running around the court and leaving everything they had to finish with a 4-6, 7-5 and 5-7 in favor of the two Spaniards.
