Giorgio Armani: Milan, with Love. The Brera exhibition celebrates 50 years of style and creativity

For the first time, fashion enters the halls of Milan’s Pinacoteca di Brera with a singular protagonist: Giorgio Armani. The exhibition Giorgio Armani: Milan, with Love retraces half a century of his career through more than 120 garments from the ARMANI/Archive, transforming the museum into an unprecedented space for dialogue between art and fashion.

Armani and Brera: a profound bond Giorgio Armani: Milan with Love

For Armani, the Brera district was much more than a place of work: it was home, a creative horizon, the elegant and vital soul that inspired his pursuit of style. As early as 1993, the Accademia di Belle Arti awarded him an honorary title for the rigor and consistency of his journey – one that blends function and fantasy through an aesthetic language that has become ethical.

Giorgio Armani has been one of the highest expressions of Italian creativity,” recalled Angelo Crespi, Director of the Pinacoteca, emphasizing how the designer embodies the very essence of Milan – a city of discipline and innovation.
Chiara Rostagno, Deputy Director, also highlighted the uniqueness of the event: “Fashion as decorative art enters Brera, in an unprecedented dialogue with the artistic heritage it preserves”.

The exhibition: fashion as art Giorgio Armani: Milan with Love

The exhibition unfolds through the museum’s galleries, alongside masterpieces spanning from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. Here, Armani’s garments converse with paintings, creating chromatic and material contrasts that surprise and engage the viewer.

The selected creations reveal the hallmarks of his style:

  • A modern reinterpretation of tailoring
  • A unique taste for decoration, never excessive
  • A preference for neutral tones, always vibrant
  • Hidden richness in embroidery and refined craftsmanship

Invisible mannequins – already used in previous installations – allow the garments themselves to evoke the presence of the body. Creating a play of suggestion that makes the experience both intimate and universal.

An archive as conceptual dictionary

The exhibition draws from the ARMANI/Archive, a treasure trove of creations and documents that safeguard the designer’s vision. Transforming it into a true conceptual dictionary of contemporary fashion. From the deconstructed suits that revolutionized men’s wardrobes to evening gowns that redefine luxury through elegance and restraint…
the show reveals the power of a language that has shaped not only fashion, but the global aesthetic imagination.

Fashion and art: a dialogue that defines an era

Founded in 1776 alongside the Accademia di Belle Arti, the Pinacoteca di Brera was born with an educational vocation, solidified in 1809 when it opened to the public. Today, by welcoming fashion into its halls, it takes a historic step: recognizing clothing as an art form capable of narrating the societies of every era.

Giorgio Armani: Milan, with Love is not just a retrospective – it is an act of return. A tribute to Milan and to Brera. Places that shaped both the man and the designer, and which now celebrate his timeless style, defined by rigor, elegance, and freedom.
